Okay, so those of you that have known me for a while now just know how much of a freak I am for coffee. I’ve seriously been drinking it since I was probably about 13 years old, and it definitely got me through my first two years of college. So for coffee, I am always thankful. With coffee, it’s not just an energy thing for me – I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the taste and smell of coffee, and am super picky when it comes to me coffee. I’ve been asked so many times for tips I have when it comes to coffee, so here on my blog I decided to start a series called The Coffee Nerd Series – where I plan to share tips, favorite coffees, and drinks to order at particular restaurants. Also, rag on me all you want for using a stock photo for this post, but I honestly have no time to curate extra images right now with my current workload – and whoever Jonas Jacobsson is took this ^ amazing photo of coffee, so I’m giving him the attention he (or she) deserves. But any who, today I am sharing with you my favorite holiday drinks to order at Starbucks, and I’m going to break everything down for you so you know exactly what to order!
I will forewarn you that no matter how cold it is, I personally always get iced coffee. Also, I always get either soy, oat, or almond milk in my coffees, but you can feel free to use whatever milk you prefer. I also usually order a venti at Starbs, so keep that in mind. One final thing before we jump into this, I also frequently order my drinks light on ice. Just something to keep in mind.
How to Order: Venti iced chai tea latte with soymilk, three pumps cinnamon dolce syrup, topped with vanilla cold foam and cinnamon dolce sprinkles (if you want).
What’s It Taste Like? Okay so this kind of tastes like a glorified cinnamon bun – but not like Cinnabon overpowering cinnamon bun if you know what I mean. It has that holiday, heart-warming touch of cinnamon, with notes of caramel and of course the chai.
How to Order: Venti iced chai tea latte with soymilk, two pumps pumpkin syrup, topped with vanilla cold foam and caramel drizzle.
What’s It Taste Like? Okay, so one thing I love so much about getting my pumpkin fix this way, is that it is not overpowering. I’m not the biggest fan of pumpkin spice, but having it this way is so much better (in my opinion), and way less pumpkin-y than a regular PSL. So if you aren’t a fan of over the top pumpkin spice lattes, but still love pumpkin, this may be your way to go.
How to Order: Venti iced white chocolate peppermint mocha with soymilk, add an extra shot of espresso, topped with vanilla cold foam and chocolate curls.
What’s It Taste Like? OMG. I personally DO NOT like the regular mochas, because for me it’s just too chocolatey and rich for a coffee. This is just such a light, airy, and fresh take on a regular peppermint mocha – but listen, it’s wayyyyy better. The peppermint and white chocolate, with the vanilla cold foam and chocolate curls, literally just makes me think of all things Christmas each time I take a sip. This would be something I would order first thing in the morning, or mid-day when I need a little pick me up.
How to Order: Grande chestnut praline latte with soymilk, topped with vanilla cold foam, caramel drizzle, and chestnut praline topping.
What’s It Taste Like: Even though this is a chestnut drink, to me it has just a very small hint of hazelnut. It’s smooth and nutty, but in a good way. It’s not like you got slapped in the face with that typical nutty flavor. If you couldn’t tell already, I’m a huge fan of the vanilla cold foam, which is totally optional, but I personally think it makes whatever coffee drink you order so much better. The caramel melts into the chestnut praline latte, and just compliments it so well in my opinion.
How to Order: Venti double shot on ice with soymilk, three pumps of classic syrup, a splash of soymilk (or any milk), topped with vanilla cold foam and caramel drizzle.
What’s It Taste Like? Okay, so this is something I will get whether it’s the holiday season or not. You can literally put any flavor you want in it, and it will still be bomb AF. If you don’t like a strong coffee taste and can handle regular dairy, I would recommend getting a splash of whole milk, half & half, or heavy cream instead. The vanilla cold foam definitely takes this drink up a notch though.
I hope you all enjoyed being able to see what a coffee freak like me usually orders during the holiday season. I love sharing my love for coffee with others, so if you love coffee as much as I do, I would love for you to stick with me on this Coffee Nerd Series. Also, I would love to know if you try anything off of this list!
Until next time,
